This family home makes close references to the traditional Cape Dutch style of architecture, while still being appropriate to its time and function.  The design allows for a good quality of natural light to the interior.

1988 - A house for a young family, Stellenbosch

A house for a young family - built on a tight budget. To keep the construction cost down, the loft space was used for bedrooms. My clients chose to paint the house pink.

1987 - Our first family home in Stellenbosch

I asked my wife, Dianne, what she wanted and she said she wanted a doll's house. So, that's what she got. It was a great house to live in, with spectacular views over the vineyards looking towards the mountains. We have many happy memories of living there.

1986 - Student Housing for the University of Stellenbosch

Arranged around a court yard, this student housing complex makes reference in a contemporary way to the historical architecture on campus.  The project, done together with Kobus Louw at MBB, was published in Planning Magazine. 

1986 - Church Building, Paarl, South Africa

This building, located on Main Road Paarl makes reference, in a contemporary way, to the adjacent historical Cape architecture. This project, done while working with MBB, was published in Architect and Builder. 

1982 - High School, Butterworth, Transkei, South Africa

The design makes close reference in a contemporary way to the traditional African architecture of the region.  The project, done while working with ZAI, received an Institute of South African Architects Merit Award.  The project was published in Architecture S.A.
